Policy on Introduction of Ryegrass
Adopted September 1987
There is a growing body of evidence from ecological studies
that post-fire seeding with ryegrass suppresses regeneration of
native plant communities, does not significantly decrease
erosion, and in general is a waste of taxpayer's money. The
California Native Plant Society therefore recommends as a
general policy that seeding with ryegrass should not be done in
native forest, chaparral and grassland communities.
